Our Mission
At Modesto Foursquare, we exist to know, grow, and go together.
KNOW
We believe all things are from, through, and for Christ (Romans 11:36). Nothing is of greater importance than knowing him and being known by him. This is about more than intellectual knowledge, but about deep obedience to his ways as our Lord and deep trust in his love as our Savior.
GROW
Part of knowing Christ is being transformed into his likeness as disciples. We believe in continued growth through the study of the God's Word, the practice of spiritual disciplines, and the relationships that can only be forged in church community, knowing that Christian maturity is a lifelong process.
& GO
Jesus invited his disciples to journey alongside him, and their mission did not end when his life on earth did. Instead he sent them out as he still does today. We believe in identifying our spiritual gifts and serving one another in everyday life, the church, our greater communities, and across the globe.
TOGETHER
None of the above would be possible without each other. We believe that Christian community is vital to being a Christian. We are better together as we learn to support, encourage, grieve, and rejoice together not in uniformity, but in unity.
Our Culture
whether stated explicitly or not, every group of people has a culture—ideas, customs, and social behaviors. here’s a little bit about OUR unique style AND personality. aT MODESTO fOURSQUARE, WE VALUE:
-
We believe church community should be a place for all people to share honestly about their failures and successes in becoming more like Jesus. At MFC, we value humility and admit we are all works in progress. We recognize we all fall short (Romans 3:23) and are equally in need of Jesus’s love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
-
We believe God created us in his own image (Genesis 1:27) and has also made us creative; therefore, we seek to use our gifts and talents to express our love for God and others in worship and everyday life. This includes, but goes beyond, artistic expression to encourage imagination, an attitude of “why not,” and an entrepreneurial and risk-taking spirit.
-
We believe that every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17) and he has blessed us with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:13). Because we serve a giving God, we want to be givers ourselves. We seek to be generous with our money, time, talents, and energy knowing that God is the source of all we have.
-
We believe everyone’s life and story are important to God and that every person has valuable wisdom from him. At Modesto Foursquare, we choose to actively invest our lives in each other through mentoring and discipleship, teaching what we have learned to others.
-
We believe that Jesus is the ultimate force for change in our broken world, and we all can share what Jesus has done for us with others. Pastor and author Jerry Cook once said, “the church is people, redeemed, filled with the Holy Spirit, equipped to serve, meeting needs everywhere in Jesus’ name.” We want to live every day with this mission in mind.
-
One of the distinctive characteristics of the global Foursquare church is the value of moderation. Our founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, said it best that our, “experience and daily walk should never lead into extremes, fanaticism, unseemly manifestations, backbitings, [or] murmurings; but that [our] sober, thoughtful, balanced, mellow, forgiving, and zealous Christian experience should be one of steadfast uprightness, equilibrium, humility, self-sacrifice and Christ-likeness.
-
We believe in a relational God who is never far away or unconcerned with our lives. He is an ever-present help in time of need (Psalm 46:1). At Modesto Foursquare, we believe that healthy and encouraging relationships with God and others lead to a kind of joy, freedom, and fun only God can give.
-
When God finished creating our world, he rested, satisfied with what he made (Genesis 2:2). We desire to develop rhythms of rest, including healthy Sabbath, setting aside time not only for physical breaks but also for refreshment from work and striving for worldly success. We seek to be still and know He is God (Psalm 46:10). At Modesto Foursquare, we believe true rest comes from knowing we are loved and God is in control.
-
As disciples of Jesus, we are not spectators but partners in his church. At Modesto Foursquare, we serve one another in active participation in the life of the church. Whether greeting at services, teaching our children, or making coffee, we believe every person has a role to play, spurring one another on in love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24).
